Book List from the last 3 Bible Schools

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. – Matthew 7:24-25

Jesus asks that we build a firm foundation using his Word and his teachings. This foundation is one that needs continual strengthening or it will begin to crumble away. We have compiled a book list that contains the recommended readings from the past three summers of Bible School. They are organized by topic, so that you can revisit, relearn, and refresh what was taught and talked about.

Over the past summers of Bible school, God has revealed Himself in so many ways. In general, it’s not too hard to feel close to God when surrounded with powerful teaching and dozens of other Christians who also want God and His fullness. In the in-between times, however, feelings fade and we really have to choose to pursue God. God doesn’t just ask us to read our Bible for an hour and then pray until we feel holy enough. God beckons us to draw near to Him as we are, where we are.

When we study God, we come to know Him, and we desire to draw close to Him. The Greek word ginosko represents a general “knowledge.” The word “eido” signifies a deep and intimate knowledge of something. When I step beyond a general “ginosko” knowledge of God into the fullness of “eido” knowledge, I enter a new kind of relationship with the Father. I don’t just know His laws; I know His character. Only by seeking God can we truly know Him.

This book list is simply a tool to help you study God and therefore come to a closer knowledge of Him. Reading the entirety of this list won’t make you holier. It’s just a way to start answering the questions, “What is God really like?” “What did Jesus mean here?” and so forth. In the end, I don’t want to just know God from a distance; I want to KNOW God.
